“The nature and consequences of global and regional challenges are becoming increasingly complex. There is an objective need to strengthen effective international co-operation and enhance global governance mechanisms,” Mr. Rahmon noted, clarifying, “Such work presupposes our common commitment to the principles of equal and indivisible security. The SCO needs to take into account the profound changes in international relations. Our organisation should continue to develop co-operation based on mutual respect and mutual benefit, as well as non-targeting against other countries and organisations.”

According to Tajikistan’s leader, an increasing attention of the world community to the SCO confirms the organisation’s attractiveness, since it embodies a unique example of the interconnectedness of civilisations and cultures.

Mr. Rahmon added, “We will take new decisions today aimed at expanding the SCO. In this context, I congratulate the President of Iran, Ebrahim Raisi, on his new status as a member of the SCO Council of Heads of State. I also welcome the signing of the memorandum of obligations of the Republic of Belarus, which opens the way to its early membership in the SCO. Taking into account a growing interest among a wide range of countries and organisations, I think it is time to think about developing a concept for further expansion of the organisation in the medium term.”
