In particular, the Russian guest said, “It has always been a difficult time. We cannot say that it is difficult now, but it was easy in the past. Our strength relies on the unity of approaches, human relationships, industrial and cultural co-operation. Your President has also said today that we are, in fact, one people – who share one long history, traditions, serious present and great future. We simply need to remember all this. We have a lot in common. We are united by the Victory in the Great Patriotic War and many other victories.”

Vitaly Khotsenko added that the Omsk delegation had visited Khatyn prior to the meeting, “That was a very strong, disturbing, emotional feeling. Just imagine the disturbing symbolism: on March 22nd, 1943 [the Khatyn tragedy happened], and there was a severe terrorist attack on March 22nd, 2024 in the Moscow Region. I believe that fascists, neo-Nazis and terrorists are all the same: these are inhumans, monsters that need to be fought – and our countries are doing this.”
