Officers' ball in Brest

The festive event was held on February 26th, at the Brest Academic Drama Theatre with the support of the regional executive committee and was dedicated to the 80th anniversary of Belarus' liberation from Nazi invaders. The participants were officers from various branches of the Brest garrison and medical staff from the Brest Regional Clinical Hospital, who formed 16 dance pairs.

That evening, the theatre foyer was filled with the sounds of classical music performed by musicians from the Brest Academic Drama Theatre Symphony Orchestra along with talented soloists, international competition laureates Natalia Dementieva and Nikolai Sutko. The ball programme also featured numerous creative surprises from the artists of the Brest Theatre, the Fiesta dance ensemble and the choreographic school.

As the event organisers noted, the main goal of the officers’ ball, held for the first time in the regional centre, is the union and unity of different professions in the service of the Fatherland, co-operation in achieving common goals, and the establishment of friendly relations among representatives of different spheres of activity. The participants had a unique opportunity to showcase their creative abilities, share their own understanding of beauty, honour and dignity.

“The tradition of officers’ balls dates back to ancient times and we are reviving it. Nowadays, young people communicate more on the Internet, but nothing can replace live communication. This ball provides an opportunity to look each other in the eyes and hear a live voice of your partner. This is invaluable experience. Perhaps, some may form pairs not only on the dance floor but also in real life,” the Military Commissar of the Brest Region, Oleg Konovalov, noted.
