Observer from Latvia on election in Belarus: citizens have unique right to choose their President independently

Belarusians have a direct opportunity to choose their national leader, while Latvia lacks it: the Seimas makes decisions for people – as stated by an independent observer from Latvia, Yuri Alekseev

“Back in the 1990s, the people of Latvia came up with an idea of choosing their national leader independently, but the country's authorities strongly stated that the people were not mature enough to do that – so the difference between the people of Belarus and ours is that citizens here have the opportunity to decide for themselves who will be their President and national leader. This is a very important aspect," Mr. Alekseev emphasised.

As noted by the independent observer, he arrived in Belarus in October 2024 and decided to stay in the country forever. The man explained that decision by saying that it seemed unwise for him to live in a place where justice is in the hands of the Nazis.

“I have wonderful impressions about Belarus. It is a wonderful country, Sincere, kind and smiling people live here. In turn, people in Latvia have such faces, as if they buried all their relatives yesterday, sadly. In Belarus, the whole society is open. There is a job for everyone in your country, the prices are reasonable, and transport services are affordable. The quality of products in Belarus is many times better than in Latvia. I do not regret that I decided to move to Belarus,” Mr. Alekseev added.
