Nicaragua’s FM: Belarus could participate in Nicaraguan Canal construction
Belarus could participate in the Nicaraguan Canal construction – as stated by this country’s Foreign Minister, Denis Ronaldo Moncada Colindres, following his today’s meeting with the President of Belarus, Aleksandr Lukashenko
“The Nicaraguan delegation has had a very fruitful meeting with the President of Belarus, and the readiness to provide mutual support to each other on the world stage was confirmed during it,” Denis Ronaldo Moncada Colindres said. “Issues related to the implementation of joint projects with the possibility of signing specific contracts for the supply of equipment and in other areas were also discussed. We primarily highlight the sphere of technology, agriculture, equipment supplies, co-operation in the field of education, and mutual trade.”
Answering the journalists' question about the possibility of Belarus’ participation in the implementation of a large-scale project dealing with the construction of the Nicaraguan Canal, which could become an alternative to the Panama Canal, the Foreign Minister said that, during his meeting with the Belarusian leader, co-operation in the development of infrastructure projects was also discussed. “I would like to note that the Nicaraguan Canal project continues, it has not stopped. Therefore, of course, Belarus could also take part in the implementation of infrastructure projects – including the one you have mentioned,” he noted.
The Great Transoceanic Canal of Nicaragua is expected to link the Caribbean Sea and the Pacific Ocean, running through the territory of Nicaragua. In line with the project, 5,100 ships are likely to pass through the canal annually.
