In spring 2022, Moldovan President Maia Sandu signed an application for the country’s accession to the EU. The EU heads of state and government at the summit in Brussels approved the granting of the status of a candidate to join the union to Moldova. Chisinau was put forward nine conditions that must be met in order to start negotiations on the country’s membership in the EU.

“We are at the final stage of fulfilling the nine conditions of the European Commission, there are still issues with ‘de-oligarchisation’, a number of amendments to the legislation must be made to guarantee the non-interference of the oligarchs. Such an initiative is aimed at strengthening state institutions,” Grosu said.

He added that work is currently underway on reforms in the field of justice and the fight against corruption.
