Minsk to host book fairs four times a year

Book fairs will be held in the Belarusian capital four times a year – as informed by Dmitry Makarov, the Chairman of the Council of Organisers of Book Exhibitions and Fairs

The Book Autumn in Capital fair has recently been held in Minsk. A new venue was chosen: the Stolitsa Shopping Mall. “Our publishers and visitors appreciated the site – primarily due to its convenient logistics. We saw that the venue enjoys a great potential and it was decided to organise there four exhibitions a year,” Mr. Makarov has informed.

Eighty publishers presented their books and, according to Anastasia Radikevich, the Deputy Director of the Adukatsia i Vykhavanne Publishing House, exhibitions enable them to advertise their publications. “We have new interesting proposals for our readers every year. In September, our I Remember All book was released. It contains memories of the Belarusian writers who were children during the war. The first edition quickly sold out. Another long-awaited book is Memorable Places of Belarus. It took us two years to prepare the publication jointly with the Great Patriotic War History Museum. It’s Belarusian-language edition – 99 Famous Sights of Belarus – is also out by now,” she said.

Children's literature always enjoys demand at book fairs but, as noted by Mr. Makarov, it’s not so easy to work with such publications, “A children's book needs much financial and physical effort. Accordingly, it is often quite expensive.”

The next book fair – Christmas in Capital – will be held from December 22nd-26th. There are also scheduled events for 2022: Book Spring in Capital (June 1st-5th) and Book Autumn in Capital (October 19th-23rd).
