Lukashenko: we need to maintain independence so that new generations never go under the whip

Belarusians must preserve their independence and sovereignty so that future generations never go under the whip – as stated today by the President of Belarus, Aleksandr Lukashenko, during the Knowledge Day solemn assembly in the National Children’s Technopark

Addressing the pupils, the Head of State underlined, “As the first President of an independent country, I really want others to follow you. This is even more important than the fact that you are the pathbreakers today. I want you to grow up as worthy citizens of our Belarus.”

The Belarusian leader noted that history gave sovereignty to our country rather unexpectedly, “And we must preserve this sovereignty. Simply speaking, sovereignty is power within the borders of our state. We must determine here who and how will study in schools and technoparks, at what cost, etc. For the first time we have become, as far as possible, an independent state. Independence is not even sovereignty. Independence is a relative concept.”

Aleksandr Lukashenko drew attention to the fact that today there is not a single absolutely independent state in the world. This also applies to major world leaders. The special military operation on the territory of Ukraine, e.g., showed how great Russia needs support and assistance. Powerful India and China also need international support.

“Even a vivid example of the United States: it prints the currency and can fill up the whole world with these green banknotes. Is the US independent? A war happened in Ukraine, and the Americans went around the world. This is primarily their interest. But they alone did not get involved in this fight against us, against Russia. They dragged fifty-one countries to their side: powerful, advanced countries (Germany, Japan). They tried to unite the whole world and get tremendous support, because they are dependent on these countries,” the President said.

At the same time, he stressed, “But we have this independence. And we have sovereignty. We need to preserve this so that we and the generations that will come after us never go under the whip, never walk in bast shoes again. If we have more people like you, we will definitely never go under the whip and put on bast shoes again. And if we do, it’s only to laugh and joke.”

The Head of State wished pupils strong health and advised them to lead an active and healthy lifestyle, “Be active in everything: in sports and in life, getting your knowledge. If you need my support, you are welcome! We will definitely help you. We will help because you took a risk, becoming the first and this is worthy of respect.”
