Lukashenko: we have difficult times ahead

The people of Belarus must unite and move forward – noted the President of Belarus, Aleksandr Lukashenko, as he presented a new Chairman of the Mogilev Regional Executive Committee, BelTA reports

During his speech, Aleksandr Lukashenko thanked his fellow countrymen for their support and steadfastness shown against the background of last year’s events.

“You looked decent and your governor [former Chairman of the Mogilev Regional Executive Committee Leonid Zayats – BelTA’s remark] was at the forefront, like a tribune,” said the President. “I thank you for protecting the country. This obliges me to a lot.”

The Head of State expects that the next leader will be also concerned about Belarus.

“Sooner or later we will have to retire, but what will happen to the country that we have built with our own hands? Maybe something was not right, but we built and created it as best as we could. We built it out of the things we had, as the song goes. We have no other country, and we need to save it,” stressed Aleksandr Lukashenko.

“We have difficult times ahead. We must move forward. It is always necessary to start with the Basic Law if we want changes. However, we need to do as much and change things for the better as we can today. If we rush forward and the people do not understand us, we will break away from them. Nobody needs this. We cannot create any holes in our society and in our politics, because we do not have oil or gas dollars to close these gaps later,” asserted the Head of State. “That’s why I ask you to be serious about future political events. Today we must unite and move forward. I will not lead you where we shouldn’t go, you can be sure of this.”
