Lukashenko: Vitebsk Region has everything to reach the level of Belarus’ advanced regions

The Vitebsk Region has everything to reach the advanced level in the country – as stated today by the President of Belarus, Aleksandr Lukashenko, when making a number of personnel decisions

In particular, when approving the appointment of Sergei Yegorov to the position of Chairman of the Vitebsk District Executive Committee (previously he held the position of Chairman of the Agriculture and Food Committee at the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee), the Belarusian Head of State noted that there are many problems in the region’s agricultural sector. Therefore, Aleksandr Lukashenko asked Head of Belarus President Administration Igor Sergeyenko about the reason for this rotation, “Is this dissatisfaction with working in this position?”

Igor Sergeyenko replied that similar experience has proven itself well in other regions, particularly, in the Brest and Gomel regions.

The Belarusian leader also asked Sergei Yegorov himself how he assessed such an appointment. Sergei Yegorov said that he had already gained some experience, being the Chairman of the Agriculture and Food Committee, and before that heading the Tolochin District, and is ready to head the Vitebsk District Executive Committee.

“So this is a more lively work, you want to say? After all, the Vitebsk District is a gross-determining region in agriculture or not?” Aleksandr Lukashenko clarified.

“It’s placed second after the Orsha District: both in terms of area and production enterprises,” replied Sergei Yegorov.

“But that doesn’t mean it should be second,” noted the President.

“I set myself the task of bringing the district to the level of the advanced districts of other Belarusian regions (those of Grodno and Brest),” Sergei Yegorov assured.

“This is correct, because Orsha, Tolochin and Vitebsk [districts] must drag the entire region,” the President agreed, adding that it is difficult for the northern districts of the Vitebsk Region to ‘pull up the village’, although they ‘have to resist’. It’s good that you set yourself the task of bringing this district to the level of the advanced districts in Belarus. There’s everything both in Vitebsk and in the district to achieve this. The reference point for you at the first stage is the Orsha District. You must surpass it; there is everything for this.”
