Lukashenko visiting National Heroes Acre Memorial near Harare

The President of Belarus, Aleksandr Lukashenko, is visiting the National Heroes Acre Memorial near the capital of Zimbabwe, BelTA reports

The Belarusian Head of State was met by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade of Zimbabwe, Frederic Shava. Aleksandr Lukashenko laid a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

After that, Aleksandr Lukashenko went to the official negotiations with his Zimbabwean counterpart Emmerson Mnangagwa.

The National Heroes Acre is a burial place and a national monument located on a ridge seven kilometres from Harare. The memorial was created to perpetuate the memory of the Patriotic Front guerrillas killed during the Rhodesian Bush War, as well as contemporary Zimbabweans, whose dedication or commitment to their country justify their interment at the shrine.

The general view of the memorial complex resembles two AK-47 assault rifles. Work on the creation of the complex was launched in September 1981, a year after Zimbabwe gained independence. The complex includes the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, the Eternal Flame lit at independence celebrations in 1982 to embody the spirit of Zimbabwe’s independence, and a museum dedicated to the rise of national identity in Zimbabwe and the anti-colonial struggle. The wall frescoes depict the history of these territories since pre-colonial times.
