Lukashenko set the task of putting Belarusian electric car into mass production from January 1st, 2025

During his today’s visit to BELGEE JSC, the President of Belarus, Aleksandr Lukashenko, said that Belarus should start producing its own electric vehicles from 2025

This year, several prototypes of BELGEE E-X50 electric vehicles will be produced, pass all tests, and starting from next year, production should become serial.

The Belgee X50 sample was transferred to the Academy of Sciences of Belarus to create a domestic electric car on its basis. This year, a pilot batch of Belgee E-X50 electric vehicles will be produced, they will pass all tests, and starting from next year, serial production should be launched. For the experimental model, the Industry Ministry enterprises have already produced a set of traction electric drives, comprising of an electric motor, a control inverter and a gear unit.

A full-size mock-up of the traction battery was made to carry out work on modifying the body of the base platform for its installation. In the near future, design documentation will be developed for localisable components and parts and their installation on a passenger electric vehicle.

According to Deputy Prime Minister Piotr Parkhomchik, an enterprise will subsequently be determined that will be engaged in serial production of the electric vehicle. At the same time, all bodywork will be carried out at BELGEE in order to minimise costs.

“Your task is basically to do all this by January 1st, 2025. You have a year. Buy the machinery you need, install it and start making. The result must be released by January 1st,” Aleksandr Lukashenko instructed the Government.

Today, in general, the results of the work of the Academy of Sciences and the Industry Ministry in terms of the development and creation of an electric vehicle based on the Belgee platform were summed up. While talking to reporters, Piotr Parkhomchik noted that the Head of State has tightened the task today, setting a deadline of January 1st, 2025, “By this time, the necessary technological capacities will have to be created for the production of those components that are used in the electric vehicle. Today there are prototypes developed and created by the Academy of Sciences. It is necessary to scale the production of these components, which means the creation of certain competencies that do not currently exist in the Industry Ministry.”

In particular, high-precision gears for high-speed gearboxes are not manufactured in Belarus. The necessary elements are produced for MAZ and BELAZ vehicles, for trucks, but not for passenger vehicles.

“We asked the President to give us a year and a half to solve this problem, but you heard the goal: to create the necessary capacities by the end of the year, to produce a pilot batch of electric vehicles this year, and to complete all issues related to certification. That is, we need to confirm all design solutions that are declared. Belarusian enterprises will be involved in this work: the Mogilev plant [production of electric motors by Mogilevliftmash JSC], Izmeritel, Integral,” said the Deputy PM.
