The Head of State noted that the current Belarus-Russia congress is being held in the year marking the 85th anniversary of the start of the Great Patriotic War.
“June 1941 changed the course of history. It was here, on the territory of occupied Belarus, that crimes were committed unlike any the world had ever seen. Here, Nazi Germany and its accomplices faced unprecedented nationwide resistance from Red Army soldiers, partisans, underground fighters, and civilians,” the Belarusian leader emphasised.
“Today, as the heirs of the victors, we continue to strive to preserve the memory of the heroes and millions of innocent victims, to uncover previously unknown mass graves, to open archives, and to reveal new facts and names, including those of Nazi war criminals and their collaborators who escaped justice by fleeing abroad,” the President pointed out. “Our cause is just, and the truthful history of the Great Victory serves as a vital counterargument against the policies of Western European revanchism and the blatant propaganda of fascist, Nazi, and xenophobic ideologies.”
Aleksandr Lukashenko expressed confidence that the congress’ voice will be strong and convincing in defending peace and the equal rights of all humanity to life, national dignity, and the sovereign choice of the native country’s future.
