Lukashenko sees opportunity for CIS states to reduce dependence on global upheavals

The President of Belarus, Aleksandr Lukashenko, sees an opportunity for the CIS member states to reduce their dependence on global shocks. He stated this at the CIS summit in Astana, BelTA reports.

“As far as the economic situation is concerned, it is obviously difficult. The ill-conceived actions of particular governments, primarily in the West, have caused significant damage to the global economy. The example of Belarus and Russia shows how traditional sales markets for national goods and purchases of critical imports can close overnight, how established forms of interstate settlements, sources of investment and much more can become inaccessible,” the Belarusian leader said.

“Meanwhile, we have everything to minimise our dependence on global upheavals and unfriendly steps of aggressively minded states. We just need to skilfully use these opportunities,” Aleksandr Lukashenko stressed.
