Lukashenko presents ‘For Valour’ award

A commander of the sapper-pyrotechnic group of military unit No. 5530 of the Interior Ministry’s internal troops, Captain Aleksei Ostrovsky, has received ‘For Valour’ award following President Lukashenko’s decree – as informed by the Belarusian leader’s press service

The serviceman was awarded for personal courage and valour shown while performing his military duty, bold and decisive actions to neutralise and destroy explosive objects.

In January 2022, Aleksei Ostrovsky neutralised seven 125mm artillery shells, that were transported illegally in a car. During transportation through the forest area in the Polotsk District, one of the shells exploded – resulting in the death of a person. Due to the explosion, the shells were randomly scattered in the damaged car, and it was difficult to approach them. It took the captain more than 5 hours, endurance, self-control and special skills to solve a non-standard task and defuse the shells at the risk of his life.
