Lukashenko on import substitution in Union State: eliminating critical dependence on other countries

2 March, 13:00

Belarus is actively pursuing import substitution and is ready to assist Russia in this effort — as stated by President Aleksandr Lukashenko during his today’s meeting with Russia’s Murmansk Region Governor Andrei Chibis

The Head of State emphasised that Belarus is actively working on import substitution, “We are working very intensively to move away from all Western imports — from those countries that have imposed sanctions against us. We have practically succeeded in this, especially concerning certain industrial components and assemblies. In this regard, you can rely on Belarus. I always prefer domestic products over imports. When something breaks, finding a replacement can be difficult and time-consuming, but with local products, it’s much easier. Belarus is not a foreign country to Russia: it’s our own. At any time, we can provide any replacement parts needed for our equipment, as well as supply the necessary amount of food.”

Aleksandr Lukashenko highlighted that our republic is always ready to support the regions of Russia. Speaking to the Governor of the Murmansk Region, the Belarusian leader said, “Let’s keep progressing, but the most important thing is to focus on our own interests. You can see how global events are unfolding. We must protect our land, our people, and above all, prioritise our own interests. At every meeting with the Russian leadership, I express this position and emphasise the need to eliminate certain dependencies on other countries, particularly critical ones. We must protect what is ours.”

The President assured that we are ready to co-operate and work in any area. He also reminded that a decision was made to set up the Committee on Standardisation and Quality of the Union State, as well as to approve the Union State Product mark. “We need to advance in this direction and avoid creating extra obstacles. We will certainly achieve our goals because these are the interests of our peoples — Russians and Belarusians.”
