Lukashenko on common challenges, co-ordinating actions and Commonwealth’s potential at CIS summit

Common challenges require maximum co-ordination and using the full potential of the Commonwealth of Independent States — as stated by President of Belarus Aleksandr Lukashenko at the limited session of the CIS Heads of State Council meeting in Dushanbe on October 10th

The Belarusian leader noted that every time he visits hospitable Tajikistan, he feels a special atmosphere of cordiality and warmth, and highlighted the high level of preparation and holding of the CIS summit, “The extensive agenda of today's meeting is direct confirmation that modern threats affect everyone. Countering terrorism, strengthening border security, and combating transnational crime — those have long stopped being the tasks of individual agencies and have become components of the national security of each CIS state.”

Aleksandr Lukashenko emphasised that we are witnessing and taking part in tectonic geopolitical processes, “For some, those mean a difficult and painful process of bringing ambitions into line with real possibilities. For our Eurasia, however, these are a necessary, even though painful, stage on the path to growing global influence and strengthening the status of a paramount political and economic centre of the multipolar world.”

The President of Belarus stressed that common challenges require maximum co-ordination and using the full potential of the Commonwealth of Independent States, “Therefore, our task today is not only to ascertain risks and analyse opportunities, but also to develop specific, feasible and achievable mechanisms for co-operation.”
