President of Belarus Aleksandr Lukashenko has met with President of the United Arab Emirates Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, BelTA reports
"I am very happy that we have managed to meet," the UAE President greeted his Belarusian counterpart.
The main part of the meeting was held without the presence of the media, whose representatives managed only to capture a few protocol shots – following the local traditions.
Aleksandr Lukashenko talked, in particular, about the meeting with the UAE Minister of Investment, Managing Director of the ADQ Investment Fund Mohamed Hassan Alsuwaidi. “He plunged me seriously into artificial intelligence, and I learned a lot of new things. We will think together of how to find common ground," he said.
The Belarusian leader also mentioned his working visit to Oman that had taken place prior to his arrival in the UAE. “We have just come from Oman. Our visit there was pre-scheduled long ago,” he said.
As reported, during Aleksandr Lukashenko's working visit to the UAE, the main focus was on continuing and developing co-operation in trade, economic, investment, humanitarian and other areas of mutual interest.
In total, the meeting of the presidents lasted for more than an hour, after which Mohamed bin Zayed bib Sultan Al Nahyan personally escorted Aleksandr Lukashenko to the aircraft. The leaders warmly said farewells. "You should definitely come! We have a lot to talk about," the President of Belarus invited the UAE President.
As reported, the Head of State arrived in the UAE on a working visit on December 18th. Immediately at the airport, he held talks with the UAE Minister of State for Foreign Trade, Thani Bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi.
Aleksandr Lukashenko announced his intention to discuss a number of issues in the relations between the two countries, as well as to meet with investors who work in Belarus and invest in its economy.
Co-operation in the field of high technologies was the main topic of discussions on the following day. Special attention was paid to artificial intelligence, which has been rapidly developing around the globe in recent years. These issues were discussed at a meeting with the UAE Minister of Investment, Managing Director of the ADQ Investment Fund Mohamed Hassan Alsuwaidi. By the way, as the President of Belarus admitted, it was with his meetings in the UAE in the past years that many successful high-tech initiatives in Belarus were related in one way or another.
Aleksandr Lukashenko also held talks with the management of companies working in the field of high technologies, including artificial intelligence.
The United Arab Emirates is a long-standing partner of Belarus in the Middle East. The history of the relationship has been going on for decades. One of the landmark events in the development of bilateral relations was the visit of the Belarusian leader to the Emirates in March 2007. At that time, the countries at the highest level demonstrated their willingness to significantly expand bilateral co-operation and intensify interaction in many areas.
"This country has become a springboard for many companies that seek to sell their products in this rich region. Therefore, it is also very interesting for us. You know that I have not come alone here: I am accompanied by a large company of our entrepreneurs and business leaders who directly conducted negotiations here, in the Emirates. I think, after their negotiations, we will also use this country even more widely to promote our economic interests and specifically to sell our goods through a network that was created in the United Arab Emirates at the state level," the Head of State said in an interview with media representatives then.
