Lukashenko: current situation creates a chance for Belarus’ agriculture to reach new export level

Given an acute food deficit in global markets, the current situation is a chance for Belarusian agriculture to reach a new level of exports. As stated by President Aleksandr Lukashenko at a meeting in Postavy focusing on the work of agro-industrial associations of the Vitebsk Region, to take full advantage of this chance, it is necessary to place a stake not on raw materials, but on finished products with high added value. As promised earlier, the Head of State is visiting the regions to personally see how fast the work is progressing, and what help is needed.

Aleksandr Lukashenko reminded that the strategic importance of the harvesting campaign for Belarus this year had been discussed in detail during a recent conference meeting. The event not only raised problematic issues (there were especially many of them in the Vitebsk and Gomel regions), but also worked out specific ways to solve them. In addition, the Agriculture and Food Ministry and the entire power vertical — including governors and district heads – were set a serious task.

“Of course, we will provide our domestic market with everything necessary and will meet the needs in feed for the cattle. We will produce all this, we will feed our people and animals. But given an acute shortage in the global food market, the current situation is a chance for our agriculture to reach a new level of exports. In order to take full advantage of this chance, we must rely not on raw materials, but on finished products with high added value," the President said.
