Lukashenko considers it necessary to boost trade between Belarus and Omsk Region

Belarus and the Omsk Region have a lot of reserves for increasing trade and economic co-operation. As stated by President Aleksandr Lukashenko during his today’s meeting with the Omsk Region Governor, Vitaly Khotsenko, the Russian region is well aware of Belarus' capabilities, and this makes it possible for the both sides to get down to business without any delay.

Addressing the Russian guest, the Head of State noted, “We regard your arrival as an interest in our country and an interest in the development of the future between the two states. The annual trade volume makes $110m. It is a fairly small figure, so we should make it significantly higher. Plenty of reserves are available.”

Speaking about specific points of growth in trade and economic interaction, Aleksandr Lukashenko first of all focused on the opportunities of Belarus for co-operation in the field of agriculture, “In recent years, the Omsk Region has achieved very serious success in the agricultural sector, and it is among the leading regions in the production of agricultural products in the Siberian Federal District. Your region is also one of the leaders in Russia in the cultivation of linen flax. It is actually a God-driven sphere where we should work together; as you know, great attention is paid to this branch in Belarus. We will always pay attention to flax, since it is also featured on the coat of arms of our country. Belarus has every opportunity to meet the needs of your region in modern and reliable flax harvesting equipment.”

This fully applies to other brands of Belarusian machine building – tractors and combines. The latter are well known in Russia, and Aleksandr Lukashenko commented, “I am aware of the work carried out by the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus and the Omsk Agricultural Research Centre in the field of studying, preserving and using plant genetic resources. I am convinced that our scientists have something to work on. The main thing is to ensure that this is not a research just for the sake of research. The economy should benefit from its results every year – moreover, taking into account that we annually increasing funding for these purposes within our Union State. I fully support such co-operation and believe that we are able to expand the range of variety tests conducted on different crops.”
