Lukashenko appointed Golovchenko National Bank Chairman

Today, March 10th, President Aleksandr Lukashenko has appointed Roman Golovchenko Chairman of the Board of the National Bank of Belarus, relieving him of the post of Prime Minister

The Head of State noted, “Roman Golovchenko has today been relieved of the post of Prime Minister and appointed Chairman of the Board of the National Bank of Belarus. This appointment is due to the fact that Roman Aleksandrovich always wanted the bank and the banking system to be more involved in the economy. He is an experienced person, and this appointment is very important. I believe he and Aleksandr Genrikhovich [Turchin, new Prime Minister] will find a common language.”

The President thanked Roman Golovchenko for agreeing to work in his new position, but warned, “You are being sent there not to rest. Rest is a change of scenery, and – after a hectical period of your work as Prime Minister, upon changing your environment – you will at least relax a little. As I see, you will definitely not rest. I want very experienced, strong people, organisers and economists to be involved at least in the economy during this five-year period. You perfectly well know the economy at the highest level as you worked as Prime Minister. Your experience and knowledge will definitely benefit you.”
