Lukashenko about methods of fighting in information war and Security Council’s participation in it

Aleksandr Lukashenko has met with the State Secretary of the Security Council, Aleksandr Volfovich, to discuss the updated National Security Concept of Belarus. The document proposes to take into account the novelties enshrined in the Constitution, as well as a number of points because of the growth of geopolitical instability in the world. In general, the concept has been updated by 70 percent.

One of the discussed aspects is the information security of the country. The President underlined, “Information war is very dangerous in the modern world. Work should be active everywhere: starting from a newspaper (a district or a private newspaper) and ending with the Internet.”

The Head of State added that in this regard the President Administration ‘is not doing enough, especially in serious areas’, and therefore, he believes, the State Secretariat of the Security Council should be involved in this work.

“It will be a good support for our certain actions in the media. However, I want to warn regarding all sorts of fakes: we don’t need to go this way. We need to show reality. In the end it is reality that wins. Fake news last just a day or two days, and then all this will dissipate. There is no need to give false, incorrect information, everything must be done with dignity and beauty, so as not to make excuses later,” Aleksandr Lukashenko stressed.

The list of the country’s national strategic interests in the document includes historical memory, the constitutional category ‘people’ and its all-round protection. Meanwhile, new national interests cover social responsibility of citizens, and not just the state, the security of personal data, and the development of nuclear energy.
