Lebedev: it is important for CIS to act in consolidated manner in international arena

It is important for the CIS countries to act in a consolidated manner in the international arena – as stated by the CIS Secretary General, Sergei Lebedev, before today’s meeting of the Council of Permanent Plenipotentiary Representatives of the CIS member states to the statutory and other bodies of the Commonwealth in Minsk

The CIS Secretary General stressed that the permanent representatives would summarise the results of foreign policy co-operation within the Commonwealth in 2023 in the context of the CIS international positioning, “Both in the UN and in the OSCE, unfortunately, the CIS countries are under attack, some kind of destructive attitude. Accordingly, it is very important for us to act in a consolidated manner in the international arena. Prior to the foreign ministers’ upcoming meeting in Minsk, we will talk about how we can better co-ordinate our steps in foreign policy affairs. In addition, I would like to note that the topic of interaction in the international arena was also discussed during the inter-ministerial consultations of the Commonwealth countries. I think all these steps and the consolidated actions of the CIS members will help strengthen our positions in the international arena.”

Minsk is hosting today a meeting of the Council of Permanent Plenipotentiary Representatives of the CIS member states to the statutory and other bodies of the Commonwealth, and its participants are discussing the implementation of the roadmap for realisation of the initiatives voiced by the heads of delegations during meetings of the Council of Heads of State, the Council of Heads of Government, the Council of Foreign Ministers and the CIS Economic Council in terms of security co-operation. They also plan to summarise the results of foreign policy co-operation within the Commonwealth in 2023 in the context of the CIS international positioning.

The meeting participants will consider proposals for the draft agenda of a meeting of the Council of Heads of Government of the Commonwealth of Independent States scheduled to be held on May 24th in Ashgabat.
