Kazakh leader proposes to hold referendum on changing constitution
The proposal to hold a referendum on constitutional reform was made by Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev at a session of the People’s Assembly of Kazakhstan – as reported by TASS
Tokayev believes that ‘changing the constitution through a nationwide vote will be a clear demonstration of the people’s will’.
Moreover, he added that the referendum will enable citizens ‘to take a direct part in deciding the fate of the country’ while also ‘strengthening the course towards comprehensive democratisation and building new Kazakhstan’.
