IOC created eSports Commission

The International Olympic Committee has created a commission on cybersports chaired by French IOC member David Lapartien, TASS reports

"The IOC is convinced that virtual sports have the ability to complement and enhance traditional Olympic sports, and can provide new opportunities for athletes and fans to engage with the Olympic movement. We believe that virtual sports can help to promote the values of excellence, friendship and respect that are at the heart of the Olympic Games, and that they can inspire young people around the world to get involved in sports and to lead active and healthy lifestyles,” IOC President Thomas Bach said.

The organisation is already exploring the potential of esports development through initiatives such as the Olympic eSports Week, held for the first time in Singapore on June 23th-25th, and the Olympic eSports Series, to which professional players and amateurs from all over the world are invited.
