IEA urges Europe to reduce gas consumption

International Energy Agency believes Europe should reduce gas consumption in a crisis, and winter 2022/2023 could become a historic test of European solidarity – as noted by the IEA Head, Fatih Birol, TASS reports

According to Mr. Birol, in order to fill its gas storages before winter, Europe needs to reduce current gas consumption by 12bn cubic metres right now.

In addition, it is recommended to improve co-ordination between gas and electricity operators, and also agree on emergency planning at national and European levels.
