Houthis threatens US with ‘new Vietnam’ in case of ground attack on Yemen

If the United States launches a ground operation in Yemen, it will find itself in a more dangerous situation than during the conflicts in Afghanistan and Vietnam – as noted by Mohammed Ali al-Houthi, a high-ranking representative of the Yemen-based rebel Houthi movement Ansar Allah, in an interview with Italy’s La Repubblica newspaper, TASS reports

“A ground war is what the Yemeni people want because they can finally fight those responsible for their suffering for nine years.” If the US sends troops to Yemen, it will face a more difficult situation than in Afghanistan and Vietnam. We’re ready for different options for inflicting a strategic defeat on the Americans in the region,” he said.

Al-Houthi also added that there are no direct contacts with the Americans, despite the fact that the US Armed Forces attempted to establish them, explaining that communication is going through a team of mediators in Oman.

The Ansar Allah official gave assurances that the Houthi movement does not intend to block the Red Sea and Bab el-Mandeb Strait.

“Vessels that are in no way connected with Israel won’t be harmed,” he underlined. He also cautioned Italy that it may become a target if it participates in aggression against Yemen. “We advise Italy to stay neutral; this is the least it can do,” he added.
