“Inspectors [US Food and Drug Administration, FDA] identified quality control lapses at the California Centre for Animal Research. A similar inspection at Neuralink’s Texas facility did not reveal any problems,” the agency stated, referring to the received inspection report.

It is known that among the problems found, there are no records of calibration of a number of instruments, including a vital signs monitor. According to the agency, other issues included quality assurance staff not signing off on the final study report or documenting any deviations from approved protocols or standard operating procedures.

Reuters quotes experts as saying that although the identified problems are considered serious, they do not seem so thorough that inspectors begin to take action. The FDA will continue to monitor the work of the centre through regular reports.
