French Prime Minister resigns

On October 6th, France’s PM-elect Sebastien Lecornu resigned just a few hours after appointing his new cabinet, sb.by reports citing Reuters

After weeks of consultations with political parties of all stripes, Lecornu appointed his ministers on October 5th. The first cabinet meeting was scheduled for the afternoon of October 6th.

According to the news agency, the new cabinet line-up drew criticism from both opponents and allies, who considered it either too right-wing or not enough so, raising questions about how long it would be able to hold on. Currently, no political group has a majority in the French parliament.

Lecornu handed his resignation to French President Emmanuel Macron in the morning of October 6th.

“Mr. Sebastien Lecornu has submitted the resignation of his government to the President of the Republic, who has accepted it,” the Elysee's press office noted.
