Financial Times: Prince Harry is first British royal in 130 years to give evidence in court

Prince Harry has become the first senior British royal to take to the witness box in more than a century when he testifies against Mirror Group Newspapers (MGN), TASS reports with reference to the Financial Times

The Prince accuses the publication of unlawful information-gathering and of his severe bouts of depression and paranoia. Between 1996 and 2010, about 140 materials were published that were collected by illegal means, says Harry.

A spokesman for the MGN defendant stated, “Many plots containing information about the Prince are based on data disclosed by the royal household or members of the royal family, or on their behalf.”

The publication noted that this case of giving testimony will be the first since the ‘royal baccarat scandal’ of 1890, when a card player accused of cheating filed a libel suit against the Prince of Wales (later crowned under the name of Edward VII).
