Fetisov: all available tools need to be used to solve climate issues

Vyacheslav Fetisov, a deputy of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of Russia, delivered a speech at a panel session focusing on the prospects for development of raw materials and energy markets in modern conditions within the framework of the 16th Verona Eurasian Economic Forum

“In modern realities, it is necessary to find a balance of climate policy, the implementation of the energy transition in long-term and sustainable economic development. All available tools need to be used to solve climate issues. Only uniform and legally protected rules will make it possible to interact on a trust level and use the climate tool wisely. The green agenda should unite the efforts of all countries of the world,” Mr. Fetisov said.

According to the Russian deputy, the world is changing at an unprecedented speed, and the green climate agenda is among the main triggers of this process. “In this regard, the business community and states start facing new topical and strategically important questions, the consequences of the answers to which will affect each of the people who live on planet Earth, as well as subsequent generations,” he added.

Mr. Fetisov recalled that, in December 2023, accelerated energy transition, access to innovations and technologies will be discussed in the United Arab Emirates. “The issues of the climate agenda financing will be in focus. In addition, the progress made by the countries within the framework of the Paris Climate Agreement adopted in 2015 will be assessed for the first time,” he said.
