Expert commented on EV sales prospects in Belarus

The world vehicle market is undergoing global transformations today – the share of electric vehicles is steadily growing. The Chairman of the Belarusian Automobile Association (BAA) Board, Sergei Varivoda, commented on the features of this process in Belarus and explained what sales volumes indicate, sb.by reports.

“The Belarusian vehicle market was a bit delayed at the very start. Perhaps, only in the last couple of years has it actively joined the race to develop the green car market. In part, it has its benefits, as we are less likely to repeat the mistakes of the pioneers. There is time to learn from the experience of others about the pitfalls of the development of this segment of the vehicle market. A characteristic feature of the process of the formation of the domestic EV market is that it is still filled mainly through the channels of ‘unorganised’ import. For example, with at least 5,000 electric cars and series hybrids imported and sold in the country's domestic market, official dealers accounted for less than 300 units. In order to find ways to enhance the contribution of car dealers to the development of the environmentally friendly car market, at the end of 2023, the BAA held a special round table discussion on the topic Prospects for Electric Vehicle Dealer Sales. Now, the process of importing electric cars by dealers has acquired impressive dynamics. According to the estimates of the car dealers themselves, they will be able to sell about 2,000 such cars in 2024. Nevertheless, so far, this figure is still inferior to the volume of electric cars imported by individuals,” the expert noted.
