Fake news creators often aim not only at destruction of historical memory, but also undermining of national identity.

“Collective challenges and threats to national security have shifted dramatically to the field of information security. This creates a dangerous imbalance in international co-operation, including at the regional and global levels. We are now observing information aggression and falsification of events. Distortion of the historical truth has already become a weapon for some states,” Mr. Pospelov said.

In his opinion, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Belarus-Russia Union State and the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly strongly oppose these attempts. For example, decisions have been made with the purpose of counteracting the distortion of historical memory and preparing the relevant model acts.

“This is the national legislation not only of Belarus and Russia, but also of all CSTO countries. With the help of information weapons directed against our states, attempts are being made to drive a wedge between the Slavic peoples, to introduce dissention between allies and partners. This threat is a reflection of destructive attempts to question and destroy the architecture of a multipolar world and to create the illusion of a unipolar world. We see all this in the events that are taking place," Mr. Pospelov noted.
