Details of the Year of Quality to be discussed at meeting with Lukashenko

The President of Belarus, Aleksandr Lukashenko, will hold a meeting today at the Palace of Independence dedicated to the main directions of work to improve quality in 2024 and the State Quality Mark of the Republic of Belarus, BelTA reports

It is symbolic that the Head of State’s first meeting this year – declared the Year of Quality in Belarus – is dedicated to this very topic. Moreover, the goods of the country’s best enterprises, which have maintained high quality since the USSR times, are displayed at a special exhibition in the Palace of Independence, entitled Quality Mark: Tradition of the Past and the Present.

According to the Pul Pervogo Telegram channel, the composition of the meeting participants is extensive, and there are two issues on the agenda. The Government has prepared an action plan for the Year of Quality, which will be submitted to the President. There will also be several options for the state quality mark, from which the best one should be chosen.

The President first voiced the idea of devoting this year to quality issues in September 2023, during his working trip to the Mogilev Region. “Quality is the most important issue. We need to declare next year the Year of Quality. Everything is fine with us: we produce large volumes, and Belarusian products enjoy great demand (we even have no time to satisfy Russian needs), but we still have quality-related problems. Therefore, quality should be in focus, and those responsible should be held accountable,” stressed Aleksandr Lukashenko.

This topic was continued during the President’s visit to the Kristall Production Association in November 2023, where it was proposed to establish a unified state quality mark in Belarus, taking the Soviet quality mark as the basis for the modern Belarusian one. “We’ll declare next year the Year of Quality, and I’ve already talked about this. However, we need to do better in order to compete, because we have an open economy. We need to improve the quality to be able to compete,” the President said.
