Deputy Head of President Administration: patriotic centre construction in Brest will unite all Belarusians

Construction of the Republican Centre for Patriotic Education of Youth was officially launched on November 11th at the Kobrin fortification of the Brest Fortress

The symbolic action was attended by Deputy Head of the President Administration Igor Lutsky, Education Minister Andrei Ivanets, Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces, First Deputy Defence Minister Viktor Gulevich, Aide to the President, inspector for the Brest Region Valery Vakulchik, Chairman of the Brest Regional Executive Committee Yuri Shuleiko, First Secretary of the BRSM Central Committee Aleksandr Lukyanov, Chairman of the Brest City Executive Committee Sergei Lobodinsky, personnel of the Brest garrison, Brest border group, university students of the region, teachers and students of educational institutions, representatives of public and veteran organisations.

“The Brest Fortress is a symbol of courage not only of our Belarus, it is a symbol of courage of the whole big country that defended itself from destruction, from genocide. It is our duty, our obligation to preserve the memory of those who died so that there would be peace on this land. It is gratifying that the younger generation, young people want and strive to be patriots of their country. The creation of such a centre will enable us to educate people who will honourably cherish the glory of our grandfathers, great-grandfathers who understood that there would be no family, no country if they did not die for their land, for their loved ones. This object has been declared the all-Belarusian youth construction site, but I think it will unite not only young people, but all citizens of our country. All Belarusians should contribute to this object. Our solemn gathering today is just the beginning of a serious journey, but I would like this path not to be long – so that we, the whole country, gather and do a great job that will allow us to adequately educate our younger generation," Mr. Lutsky said at the opening ceremony.

The Deputy Head of the President Administration also took part in the subbotnik, noting that that many young people came to the Kobrin fortification to remove cut trees and branches, to clear the barracks, where a hostel will be housed in the future.

“Patriotism is brought up in every day, in every minute, in every second of our life. There must be patriotism in every movement, in every act. Of course, social networks, TikTok and others can form youth opinion in different ways. Children are lost in them, but we should not exaggerate the role of the digital world, and should not also avoid it. I am sure that many young participants will post videos and photos of today’s subbotnik, and that’s good,” Mr. Lutsky summed up.
