As the Indian Ministry of Coal Industry stated in its press release, by the end of the current financial year (March 31st), India intends to achieve the ambitious goal of producing 1 billion tonnes of coal after overcoming ‘the unprecedented milestone’ of 900 million tonnes. It is reported that the country produced more than 893 million tonnes of coal in the previous fiscal year.

It is also noted that coal companies in India have reserves of 85 million tonnes of coal and provide continuous energy supply throughout the country.

The Indian Minister of Coal, Mines and Parliamentary Affairs, Pralhad Joshi, earlier announced a 5 percent reduction in imports of steam coal for the period from April to September last year: a decrease to 125.2 million tonnes was registered. He informed that the Indian government planned to completely stop supplying steam coal from abroad by the fiscal year 2024/2025, which will begin in April 2024.
