In an interview with the BTV channel, Tagarev noted, “During my visit to the US, we discussed the possibility of providing the necessary infrastructure to host a multinational NATO battle group on our territory. The US is ready to help use various international funds to finance its construction. There is a plan for the NATO battle group on the alliance’s eastern flank to grow to brigade level: about 5,000 troops.”

He added that there is no clear work schedule yet, but Bulgaria is ready to ‘promptly provide everything necessary’.

The minister underlined that when it comes to the necessary infrastructure, this is not only places to accommodate military personnel, but also a range of other facilities.

“Infrastructure means roads and railway lines that can support the rapid deployment of allies’ forces on our territory. It also envisages pipelines and fuel warehouses,” Tagarev gave an example.

According to him, not all issues are within the competence of the military department.
