According to the source, air pollution in the Kyrgyz capital makes 306 AQI (air quality index), which corresponds to the ‘dangerous’ level.

The city of Dhaka (Bangladesh) is in the second position (179 AQI), while Delhi (India) is third (176 AQI). The degree of air purity is ‘harmful’ in these cities.

Calcutta (India), Karachi (Pakistan), Mumbai (India), Accra (Ghana), Baghdad (Iraq), Tashkent (Uzbekistan) and Lahore (Pakistan) are also among the top ten.

Environmental problems first began to be recorded in the capital of Kyrgyzstan in November 2017, when the level of atmospheric pollution in the city began to exceed the maximum permissible norms several times. Since then, the air in Bishkek is considered one of the dirtiest in the world from about mid-November to mid-February. Local environmentalists believe that this, among other things, has become the result of the city’s chaotic development with high-rise buildings that blocked wind flows from the mountains. Massive use of coal to heat private houses in winter may be another reason.

The country's government has repeatedly tried to solve the problem, but so far without success.
