Belarusians stand first in Games of Future battle for awards

Hockey and basketball in two realities

The Games of the Future in Kazan are gaining momentum. Representatives of 9 out of 21 disciplines have already joined the competition at the multisport tournament. On February 22nd, the champions were determined — the first-ever trophy of the Games of the Future was contested in a virtual cycling race.

Belarus was represented by the Minsk team — Anna Terekh, Taisa Naskovich, Evgeny Sobol and Mikhail Shemetov. The competition was high: Olympic Games medallists, world and European champions came to the Games of the Future. The competitions on interactive simulators consisted of five stages: individual time trial, elimination, scratch, tempo and crit races. To win, the four team members had to score more points in all races than their competitors, and in case of equal points, the advantage was given to those who performed better in the final stage. The competitions continued until late in the evening. 

On February 23rd, the winners of the Games of the Future in phygital hockey will be known. On February 22nd, the semi-final matches were played in the tournament, where Belarusians competed both on the ice and at the monitor. Ak Bars (Russia) with Nasser Subhi in the lineup faced Liga Pro Team (Russia). The match was intense, and only in a shootout series did Liga Pro Team emerge victorious. In another semi-final, COSMOS Х17 (Russia), with several Belarusians in the team, faced Baltic Select (Latvia) and won 11:4. Thus, in the final match on February 23rd, Belarusians Dmitry Nikolaenya and Artyom Nesterov will play.

On February 22nd, the first match at the Games of the Future was played by the basketball players of Exponenta Team (Belarus). The opponent of the team was Caribbean squad (Venezuela, Argentina). The Belarusians won 27:22. 

In total, about thirty Belarusian athletes are participating in the Games of the Future.
