Belarusian tennis players learn their rivals at Australian Open start

The draw for the first Grand Slam of the season took place in Melbourne, according to the results of which Belarusian athletes learnt their rivals

Aryna Sabalenka (WTA: 5), who won a major tournament in Adelaide several days ago, will play Tereza Martincová from the Czech Republic (WTA: 73) at the start of the Australian Open. Aliaksandra Sasnovich (WTA: 38) will face another Czech Brenda Fruhvirtová (WTA: 135) while Victoria Azarenka (WTA: 25) will challenge the exit to the 1/32 finals with the representative of the USA Sofia Kenin (WTA: 280).

In men’s singles, Ilya Ivashka (ATP: 72) will face Dutchman Botic van de Zandschulp (ATP: 34).

Egor Gerasimov (ATP: 367) tried to break into the main draw of the Australian Open, but already in the first round of qualification he lost to the French Hugo Gaston (ATP: 108) – 1:6, 1:6.

The main draw matches of the season’s first major tennis tournament will be held on January 16th–29th.
