Belarus, Tajikistan looking to expand co-operation in technology, trade and innovation
On October 7th, a video conference was held for the working groups focused on co-operation between the parliaments of Belarus and Tajikistan. Gennady Lepeshko, the Chairman of the Standing Commission on National Security at the House of Representatives and head of the working group on co-operation with the Tajik Parliament, briefed reporters on the main areas where Belarus and Tajikistan aim to strengthen their partnerships.
In particular, the parliamentarian noted that regular elections were held in the Tajikistan Parliament on March 2nd. Various committees, standing commissions and friendship groups were established, including one with Belarus.
“Our first meeting was held. We expressed our willingness to work not only in the legislative field but also across all areas of life. As parliamentarians, we are ready to liaise within the scope of legislative work — we have some experience and can advise on where, in which area, and what documents need to be developed,” Mr. Lepeshko pointed out.
The deputy highlighted that the Tajik side is keen on Belarusian high-tech technologies. He also emphasised their interest in our market, agricultural equipment and machinery for the coal industry.
“We are interested in their aluminium, cotton fibre, cotton fabrics, nuts, vegetables, and fruits. They have experience in large-scale production of these goods. There is mutual interest. Currently, new areas of activity are emerging, such as AI, high-tech manufacturing and new technologies. We have made somewhat more progress in these fields. Therefore, if there is interest, we are willing to share our experience,” the deputy stated.
Mr. Lepeshko stated that the two countries’ business sectors are expanding their regional co-operation, “In this process, governors and heads of regional administrations are free to choose areas where co-operation is advantageous for them. The role of parliamentarians is simply to offer support, make recommendations, and assist in co-ordinating efforts and interactions. I believe we’ll succeed.”
