Belarus’ Prime Minister Aleksandr Turchin held a meeting with Deputy Prime Minister of Uzbekistan Jamshid Khodjaev on the eve of the official visit of President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev to Belarus. The parties discussed key areas for the development of Belarusian-Uzbek co-operation, paying special attention to the issues of industrial and agricultural interaction, as well as the prospects for implementing new joint investment projects with the participation of Uzbek capital.
Aleksandr Turchin emphasised that he was glad to meet on the eve of a landmark event in Belarusian-Uzbek relations: the official visit of the President of Uzbekistan to Belarus. “We are hosting the 3rd Forum of Regions of Belarus and Uzbekistan, and this event promises to be rich in establishing new partnerships, signing commercial contracts and interregional documents. The Days of Uzbek Culture in Belarus will also kick off, enabling Belarusians to plunge into the atmosphere of Uzbek culture. We are looking forward to the start of the visit. The whole package of documents is ready for signing. We set very serious goals for ourselves,” he said.
The Prime Minister expressed confidence that the upcoming visit of the President of Uzbekistan to Belarus will give another impetus to bilateral relations, “I am sure that the serious target of $2bn in mutual trade turnover will be reached by 2030, and we will also overcome the $1bn milestone by the end of this year.”
In turn, Jamshid Khodjaev thanked Aleksandr Turchin for his attention to the preparation of the state visit of the leader of Uzbekistan. “I would also like to note the work of the third interregional forum that is currently being held. Dear Prime Minister, a large delegation of more than 200 entrepreneurs has come with us. In addition, three heads of our regions and deputy khakims [governors of administrative regions in Uzbekistan] from all 14 regions have arrived.”
