Inna Konoshonok, who heads the Living Standards Statistics and Household Surveys Department at Belarus’ National Statistical Committee (Belstat), presented the statistics agency’s experience, contributing to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and strengthening gender equality in Belarus, as part of the regional meeting – Reviewing 30 Years of Beijing Commitments to Accelerate Gender Equality in the ECE Region – held by the UNECE and UN Women in Geneva, sb.by reports with reference to Belstat’s Telegram channel
Inna Konoshonok highlighted the effective policy pursued by Belstat to achieve the SDGs, adding that Belarus’ statistical department has an information system – Gender Statistics Web Portal – which is a powerful tool for analysing gender equality and monitoring the achievement of gender-relevant indicators of the SDGs. The Head of the Living Standards Statistics and Household Surveys Department emphasised that since its launch in 2021, the web portal has become a key resource for accessing up-to-date official statistical information covering 178 sex-disaggregated indicators.
“Systematisation of data across eight thematic areas, including health, education and employment, enables us to receive a comprehensive picture of the main trends in gender equality in Belarus. The portal provides open access to gender data and its use for evidence-based decision-making,” the specialist noted. She added that the web portal helps identify problems and contributes to the development of effective programmes and initiatives aiming to eliminate gender inequalities across various spheres of life, thus strengthening the positions of women and men in society. This is an important step towards the realisation of the principle of equality and justice in Belarus,” Inna Konoshonok stressed.
