Belarus’ FM met with Lebanese President
Belarus’ Foreign Minister Maxim Ryzhenkov has met with President of Lebanon Joseph Aoun, sb.by reports citing the Belarusian Foreign Ministry
Mr. Ryzhenkov conveyed to the Lebanese leader a personal message from Belarus’ President Aleksandr Lukashenko, congratulations on his election to the highest state post, wishes for a speedy resolution of the difficult tasks facing the country, as well as an invitation to visit Belarus.
According to the FM, the election of the President and the formation of the Lebanese Government inspire confidence in further progressive development of the country and expansion of mutually beneficial relations between Lebanon and foreign partners, including Belarus.
Mr. Ryzhenkov informed the Lebanese leader about the decision of Belarus’ President to hand over 100,000 tonnes of milk powder and 10 Belarusian-made ambulances as a gesture of friendship and support to the Lebanese people. A flight with the first shipment has already arrived at Beirut airport.
The President of Lebanon expressed his gratitude for the decision of the Belarusian leadership, stressing its high ideological significance and the hope it symbolises. Joseph Aoun noted the traditional friendship between the Lebanese and Belarusian peoples and drew attention to the fact that many Lebanese students study in Belarus.
He also conveyed his best wishes to Belarus’ President and said that he would certainly take advantage of the invitation to visit the republic. The Lebanese leader stressed his readiness to liaise with Belarus in the political, trade-economic, security, and international spheres.
Belarus’ top diplomat drew attention to the similarities between Belarus and Lebanon as multi-ethnic and multi-confessional countries, which is crucial for the pursuit of a balanced and well-considered policy. He also emphasised that Minsk is ready to develop bilateral co-operation with Beirut in an atmosphere of mutual respect, implement joint humanitarian, trade-economic projects, and support each other on international platforms.
The work of the delegation will continue through meetings at government agencies of Lebanon.
