In Minsk, just before the opening of the Belagro-2026 exhibition, the second meeting of the Belarus-Myanmar working group on co-operation in agriculture and food was held, during which the parties signed a protocol outlining the direction for strategic co-operation, sb.by reports citing the Belarusian Agriculture and Food Ministry
The Belarusian delegation was led by Ivan Smilgin, the Deputy Agriculture and Food Minister and Director of the Department of Veterinary and Food Control, while the Myanmar delegation was headed by Dr. Ye Tint Tun, the Deputy Minister for Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation.
In the first quarter of 2026, trade in agricultural products grew sixteen times.
“We have successfully started on a path towards achieving unprecedented results. We are ready to expand our export range — from dairy products and baby food to long-lasting canned meats,” Mr. Smilgin stated.
Key areas of interaction include building dairy complexes in Myanmar using Belarusian designs and equipment, aligning veterinary standards, and promoting academic exchanges between agricultural universities. Belarus also confirmed its willingness to send experts to conduct on-site project evaluations.
“We are impressed by the technology and quality of Belarusian products. When they arrive in our kitchens, it’s a true culinary celebration. We look forward to adopting your packaging technologies and developing joint ventures in meat processing and cheese production,” Ye Tint Tun emphasised.
Myanmar expressed readiness to facilitate the supply of tea, coffee, natural rubber, and tropical fruits to Belarus, as well as to arrange for Belarusian companies to participate in the Myanmar Agrotek Foodtek exhibition in Yangon in December 2026.
The signed protocol acts as a practical instrument to strengthen co-operation, connecting Belarus’ production capabilities with Myanmar’s agricultural potential to enhance food security for both countries. Both parties agreed to increase exchanges of business delegations and continue discussions on resolving phytosanitary and veterinary standards, which will create new opportunities for mutual supplies and technology transfer.
