2022 turned out to be a difficult and stressful year, and a truly turning point both for Belarus and the entire Eurasian region, and for the world as a whole – as stated by Belarus’ Foreign Minister Sergei Aleinik during a meeting of the Foreign Ministry’s collegium dedicated to 2022 results of the work of the diplomatic service of the Republic of Belarus
“The large-scale ‘hot’ conflict that erupted in early 2022 in Ukraine, which, in fact, became a proxy war between Russia and the West, greatly accelerated the aggravation of the international security crisis and further changes in the world order,” Sergei Aleinik underlined.
On the one hand, the Ukrainian crisis has exacerbated post-pandemic economic stagnation, continuing to disrupt established trade links, financial and supply chains. On the other hand, it has become even more obvious that the war in Ukraine is nothing more than a continuation of the West confrontational policy, based primarily on its economic interests, which rely on maximum control over territories and entire nations, as well as the desire to possess all the world’s resources. We see this not only in our region, but also in how the West operates in Africa, the Middle East and Latin America.
The Foreign Minister noted that in implementing its plans, the West has consolidated its forces against Russia and its allies, including Belarus, “There is a massive pressure on all participants in international relations in order to persuade them to unconditionally support their interests. It does not stop at the use of almost any means: trade restrictions, unilateral illegal sanctions, demonisation and dehumanisation of everyone who tries to take an independent position, information warfare, exclusion from multilateral organisations and formats, etc.”
In this regard, Sergei Aleinik recalled the recent unilateral decisions of Poland to stifle the border traffic.
“This is carried out with complete disregard for international law and taking as justification their own invented and differentially applied ‘rule-based order’,” the Minister added.
