Melinda Nucifora, a TV host and journalist for the Al Arabiya TV channel, shared her impressions of interviewing Belarus’ President Aleksandr Lukashenko and explained why this in-depth conversation with the Belarusian leader was particularly meaningful to her
Regarding the importance of the interview with Aleksandr Lukashenko, Ms. Nucifora highlighted the need for the audience to hear different points of views, “If a channel only features the opinions of certain leaders, viewers get a one-sided picture of the world. Our channel is different. We aim to showcase diverse viewpoints from various regions so that our audience can make informed decisions and form their own opinions based on what they have heard. That’s why we particularly appreciate the chance to speak with the President of Belarus.”
The TV host noted that the meeting went on longer than anticipated — lasting about an hour and a half. Their discussion spanned a variety of subjects, including conflicts in the Middle East and Ukraine, as well as nuclear security. The journalist found the Belarusian leader’s perspective on nuclear security especially interesting.
“I think the global audience will find this both very interesting and important to hear,” she added.
Ms. Nucifora emphasised that interviewing a world leader is a significant journalistic achievement, “I consider this interview to be special. While I have interviewed other world leaders before, this one was the longest and most thorough in terms of topics covered. The full interview will be aired as part of my show. Typically, the show features a debate format, but when we have particularly special and engaging interviews, we dedicate the entire episode to them. That will be the case here because this interview truly was exceptional. It won’t be edited or divided into smaller segments to fit other programmes; it will be broadcast in full.”
