Men claim table tennis victory, while women lose

Belarusian men’s table tennis team perform successfully in opening game of qualifying round of European Championship elite division
Alexander Petkevich’s team beat Greece 3:1 in Minsk, with the leader of the Belarusian team, Vladimir Samsonov, winning his two matches. Yevgeny Shchetinin also won while Pavel Platonov lost.

In the other matches of preliminary Group B, held in St. Petersburg, the Russian team beat Hungary 3:2, while Croatia saw the same result against Austria at home. In the next round, on September 18th, Belarus will face Croatia at home while the Russians will visit the Greeks and Hungary will play the Austrians at home.

Sadly, the women’s team of sisters Victoria and Veronika Pavlovich, alongside Alexandra Privalova, lost in Hungary 0:3. In the next round, on September 18th, Tatiana Petkevich’s squad will meet Poland in Minsk.

In the European Championship, five squads from each elite division go through to the finals, alongside the two winners of the second division; these are scheduled for October 2013 in Schwechat, Austria.
