It was stated by the Head of the Radioactive Waste Management Office of the Department for Nuclear and Radiation Safety of the Belarusian Emergencies Ministry (Gosatomnadzor), Dmitry Pavlov, in his talk with the ONT TV channel, BelTA reports

“The Chernobyl station ceased to exist in a tragic way, meanwhile, the Ignalina NPP was built according to the same project. And most importantly, decommissioning of such facilities has not been fully worked out in the world,” Dmitry Pavlov noted.

The dismantling of the Ignalina NPP is noticeably delayed, and Vilnius has no answer to the question of how to do it safely, “Once a process has started, it cannot be stopped in the middle, so there is some concern in this regard. There is, of course, a problem with human resource capacity as well. It is risky not to involve the country that once created this facility. We understand that it was built in the Soviet Union. So, to what extent can Western technologies make it possible to solve all this? We need to look at it in terms of security.”
