As part of the Russian Federation’s development of a new lunar programme, the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus has something to offer its Russian colleagues – as stated by the Director of the Geoinformation Systems R&D enterprise of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (NASB), Sergei Zolotoi, in his talk with ONT TV channel

“If we talk about long-range space flights, life support is always on the agenda. On the one hand, this is protection against hard cosmic radiation, these are new materials. On the other hand, this is the creation of product sources on board. Today, the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus has something to offer in terms of growing various kinds of biological products in orbital conditions: salads and other crops. We are developing a whole area, which is now being discussed with Roscosmos. I think that some experiments will be carried out in the near future, including on the ISS,” said Sergei Zolotoi.

He added that the Roscosmos corporation shows its interest in these aspects, “It’s one thing to eat canned food all the time during a long flight, and another thing is when you can grow something fresh on board.”
